In response to the growing number of Americans
allergic to nickel, Roman Research now offers free, allergy-safe
earring studs to doctors for their patients who suffer from this
leading cause of contact dermatitis.
Physicians and other health care professionals may order the
free earring studs by faxing their requests to Roman Research,
Clinical Service Department at 781-447-0995.
During the past five years, persons allergic
to nickel increased 40 percent, making nickel the fastest growing
and biggest cause of skin rashes in North America today, according
to the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology's latest
findings. Nearly 15% of North Americans are allergic to this
common metal. Half of them are likely to be diagnosed and treated
by their primary care physicians, according to the AAD.
David Cohen, MD, Assistant Professor of
Dermatology, New York University School of Medicine and member
of the AAD emphasizes, "Among all chemical allergens capable
of producing a skin disease, nickel is the most common allergen
in North America." Dr. Cohen adds, "The popular body
piercing trend is contributing to the increase in rashes. The
upper portions of the ears, lips, nose, nasal septum, tongue,
navel, breasts and genitalia are frequently chosen for piercing,
and have displayed a challenging array of allergic reactions."
Roman Research of Hanson, Massachusetts
invented the safe, one-step ear-piercing gun and is the only
US company that manufactures and sells nickel-safe jewelry and
watches exclusively. Only surgical stainless steel, pure gold,
nickel-free sterling silver and nickel-free alloys are used in
its products. Brands include Simply Whispers, Perfections, and
Ultra Whispers and are available through the company's website
simplywhispers.com or its catalog and retail locations. For details,
